Parkside Community Redevelopment Area
On November 15, county staff presented a draft revitalization plan at the Team Port Charlotte general meeting. The documents related to this presentation are linked below. Staff asks the citizens to review this document and provide comments back to staff at the second meeting on this topic. Weed and Seed
On July 19 and August 2, 2012, Charlotte County government hosted two "Weed & Seed" public planning workshops. The focus of these meetings was to identify issues of concern to citizens regarding public safety, property maintenance and addressing social needs within the Parkside community. More than 100 citizens attended each meeting. They offered not only their concerns, but also offered solutions to make the area a great place to live, work, play and shop.
On February 28, 2012, the Board of County Commissioners approved allocation of $9 million in initial investment to Parkside. Of this, $5.1 million was approved for improvement of Harbor and Elkcam Boulevards. Currently, both improvements are out for requests for proposals for their renovation.
Parkside Community Redevelopment District is considered a "Special District" as defined under Chapter 189, Florida Statutes. This Special District is a component of Charlotte County Government. Nine million dollars has has been approved for this project as of February 2012, which will be repaid through Tax Increment fund.
